Emma Schmidt (she/her/hers) is a physical therapist who is skilled in the treatment of orthopedic injuries and specializes in working with runners. Emma has always enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors but she fell in love with running on the beautiful campus of Berry College in northwest Georgia, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. She attended the Medical College of Georgia to further pursue her education for PT, graduating in 2015 with a clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Once she began working in an outpatient orthopedic clinic with a high percentage of runners seeking treatment for various injuries, she realized her passion for working with the running community paralleled her personal love of the sport.

She has continued to refine her skills through consistent continuing education courses, most recently with the Institute of Clinical Excellence. She has received extensive training for thorough, systematic running gait analysis and in treatment of running injuries. She loves being able to keep runners running! She has also chosen to further her education with courses for treatment and management of conditions experienced by pregnant and postpartum women and enjoys empowering this population. She has been performing dry needling since 2017 to reduce pain and facilitate improved recruitment of muscles for better overall comfort and performance during sport.

Because of her unique position as both a member of the running community and as a knowledgeable healthcare provider in managing musculoskeletal injuries, her perspective and expertise are unmatched. Whether you’re dealing with an injury, looking to prevent future injuries, or hoping to maximize your athletic abilities, contact Emma to discover your best miles yet.

Outside of Work

As much as Emma loves her career as a physical therapist, she loves her life outside of work even more. She has lived in Chapel Hill, NC since 2015 with her husband, Steven, two cats and a dog (or gremlin, not sure). In her spare time you can find her running in her neighborhood or on local trails. She also enjoys traveling to explore new places and to visit old friends, paddle-boarding and board games. She has recently decided to try her hand at learning to fly by taking up hang gliding as a hobby. She fuels herself for all this activity with good coffee, great sandwiches, local beer, plenty of chocolate, a surprising amount of spinach, and quality rest.
